Published six times a year plus two special supplements, Health Services Research (HSR) is HRET's flagship publication and an official journal of AcademyHealth. Rated as one of the top journals in the field, HSR publishes outstanding articles reporting the findings of original investigations that expand understanding of the wide-ranging field of health care and help improve the health of individuals and communities.

To be the preferred forum for health service researchers, managers, policymakers, providers and students to:

 Promote translation of health services research into improved practice and policy.
 Expand understanding of financing, organization, delivery and outcomes of health services.

To be the preferred outlet for:

 Dissemination of the findings of original investigations that expand knowledge and understanding of the broad field of health care
 Analysis of the implications of these findings for domestic or global clinical practice, management and policy
