Biomedical Informatics Faculty

Department of Pathology

The Department of Pathology in conjunction with TriCore Reference Laboratories, UNM Hospitals and Clinics, and the UNM Clinical and Translational Sciences Center (CTSC) is seeking a Director of the Section of Biomedical Informatics. Applicants may be appointed as Assistant or Associate Professor Rank.  The Director will have broad oversight for biomedical informatics activities in the Department of Pathology:

  • Lead the clinical, research, and educational development of informatics within the Department of Pathology in partnership with the CTSC, TriCore, and the UNM Hospitals.

  • Serve as Medical Director of Biomedical Informatics, leading a partnership with TriCore Reference Laboratories to develop a statewide, searchable regional data repository to be used for clinical research activities.

  • Participate in CTSC related educational functions that pertain to biomedical informatics.

  • Plan, formulate, and implement informatics tools within TriCore, the CTSC, and the Department.

  • Interact with the CTSA Consortium and the NIH regarding national biomedical informatics standardization, implementation and dissemination plans.

The UNM Health Sciences Center includes the School of Medicine and the UNM Hospitals and Clinics.  The HSC (www.hsc.unm.edu/) has rapidly growing research programs and clinical services, including the developing CTSC (http://hsc.unm.edu/research/ctsc/) and the Department of Pathology (http://hsc.unm.edu/som/pathology/).  TriCore Reference Laboratories (http://www.tricore.org/) is New Mexico's leading clinical laboratory.  Affiliated with the University of New Mexico and Presbyterian Healthcare Services, TriCore performs 7M tests annually, has revenues in excess of $110M, and employs 1000 professionals.

Minimum Requirements: Candidates must hold an MD degree; have training and substantial expertise in biomedical informatics and demonstrated evidence of research and scholarly activity appropriate for a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine.  The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the State of New Mexico, and must be eligible to work in the United States.

Desired Qualifications: Desired qualifications include experience working in the clinical laboratory setting, a record of, or potential for, extramural funding in biomedical informatics, experience teaching in an academic health center, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work with multiple constituencies.
